Quake Damage: Duck Down |
So during pre-service today we were hit with a 5.9 earthquake (my first earthquake)! I was in the office talking with my the secretary when it sounded like the wind was gusting and shaking the walls (that's a pretty common sound when it storms at school since our school was built in 1942) but then the sound turned into a rumbling like a train was on the roof of our school, it was then we realized what was going on and we ran for the door frames! The shaking continued on for about 30 seconds. Whew! I had goosebumps and was shaking for quite after as everyone pulled out cells to call family members. Thank goodness for texting since most Verizon, ATT, and other networks were all down as well as the internet at school. The only damage at school was a few things that fell off shelves and a pipe burst in the all purpose room. Four contractors were there working on it when I left. I got home tonight to evaluate any damage and had to laugh with what I found! See the photo :-D
Thursday is Kindergarten Back to School Night, Friday is Open House, and Monday will be our first day!! Classroom photos to come tomorrow!
